Raised by Reuben and tutored by a spinster schoolteacher named Miss Lilly, the boy learned about love, honor, and the difference between right and wrong. Since he was a bastard child with a black A a�Adaddy,A a�A he faced prejudice from both the black and white communities.

He learned to fight, became a Marine and won a Silver Star for bravery in World War II. He ultimately overcame prejudice to rise to a position of power where he could right the wrongs of the past.
